Discuss a task board status update
Open a board update, add comments and reactions, and choose which discussion alerts you receive.
Use a status conversation to discuss one progress update on a client account's task board. Comments stay with that update. A comment on a task stays with the task instead.
Before you start
- You need access to the account, board, and its Overview.
- The account and board need to be active to add or change comments.
- Team members post the board's status. Clients can discuss an update when its Overview is visible to them.
Open an update
- Open the client account's task board.
- Choose Overview.
- Open the current update or one from its status history.
Team members can also open updates from Task Center → Task Boards → Status Updates. Dashboard progress cards can offer Open Update, Add a comment, or a comment count. Each opens the same conversation.
Use Board Overview to set the board's status and choose whether clients can see its Overview.
Add a comment or mention
- Open the update's comment area.
- Write your comment.
- Type
@and choose a person from the list to mention them. - Check the email recipient count below the editor.
- Select Comment.
The recipient count shows who can receive an email based on current access and settings. Open the count for more detail. The people who can read the update may differ from those who receive an alert.
If no one will receive email, Sydnee offers Add @mentions or Post anyway. Posting still adds the comment to the conversation. The prompt also explains whether anyone will receive an in-app alert.
Add or remove a reaction
Choose a quick emoji or Add reaction on the update or a comment. The picker lets you search for another emoji. You can add more than one different emoji to the same update or comment.
Select an emoji you have already added to remove your reaction. Each emoji shows its total count. Hover over or focus a reaction to see who added it.
A reaction shows feedback. It does not change the board status or record approval.
Edit or delete your own comment
Team members and clients can change their own comments while they still have access to the active board.
- Open Comment actions on your comment.
- Choose Edit comment.
- Change the text, then select Save.
Edits send no new alerts, including when you add a mention. Post a new comment when someone needs a new alert.
To remove your comment, choose Delete comment and confirm. Copy any text you need before deleting it. The comment leaves the conversation. Comments posted by an integration have no personal edit or delete action.
Who receives alerts?
- A new comment can notify the update author and people who posted earlier comments on that update.
- Viewing or reacting to an update does not add someone to that comment alert list.
- A direct mention can notify the person chosen from the mention list.
- A reaction can notify the author of the update or comment in-app. Reactions do not send email.
- Your own action does not send an alert back to you.
Access and each person's alert choices still apply. Publishing a new status update has its own notification rules; it is separate from adding a comment.
Mute one conversation
Use Mute notifications for this status update to stop ordinary alerts for that update. Use Unmute notifications for this status update to allow them again. Unmuting does not add someone who has not taken part to the comment alert list.
A direct mention can still alert you while the update is muted. A reaction to your own comment can also send an in-app alert. Your mention and reaction settings still apply.
For wider choices, open Personal Settings → Email Notifications → Status Update Discussions. You can choose comment emails, comment in-app alerts, mention emails, mention in-app alerts, and reaction in-app alerts. Clients manage their own choices under Notifications in the branded portal.
What your client sees
A client with Overview access sees the same shared update and comments. They can comment, mention people they can access, react, and edit or delete their own comments.
Hiding Overview from clients also hides its status conversations. The rest of the board can stay visible. Check board and client access before sharing a direct link.
Fix a common problem
The comment shows Sending…: wait for the save to finish. If it changes to Couldn’t send. Retry, use Retry on that comment. It retries the same comment.
An edit failed: keep or copy the draft. If someone changed the comment elsewhere, reopen the latest text and apply your change there.
A draft is still there after closing the update: Sydnee can keep it during the same browser session. Copy unsent text before a refresh, sign-out, or browser close.
The update is unavailable: check account and board access, whether the board is archived, and whether Overview is enabled. A deleted update or comment is no longer available.
No alert arrived: check the recipient count, the person's access, their discussion settings, and whether they muted the update. Email also needs Receive emails from Sydnee turned on. Use a new comment for a new mention alert.
