Choose whether clients can create tasks
Set company and account choices for new client tasks while keeping existing work available.
You can let clients add tasks and subtasks, or have your team create the work for them. The company and client account each have a saved choice. Both need to allow new tasks.
Set the company choice
Workspace owners and admins can change the company setting.
- Open Company Settings → Features.
- Find Tasks and keep the module on if clients should still use existing tasks.
- Set Allow portal users to create new tasks.
- Select Save Changes.
Turning off only the task-creation switch keeps existing tasks available under their usual access rules. Turning off the whole Tasks module hides that module too.
Set the choice for one account
Team members with access to the account can change its task setting.
- Open the client account's Account settings → Tasks.
- Find Task features.
- Set Allow portal users to create new tasks.
- Select Save Changes.
If the account switch is unavailable, check Company Settings → Features. The company setting needs to allow task creation first.
How the two choices work together
| Company choice | Account choice | Can clients add tasks? |
|---|---|---|
| On | On | Yes, where their board and section access allow it |
| On | Off | No |
| Off | Either | No |
The company switch keeps each account's saved choice. Turning it on again doesn't reset those choices.
Clients still need an active account, an allowed board, and an editable section. Subtasks also need an editable parent task. Board limits still apply.
What happens to existing tasks?
This setting controls new client tasks and subtasks. It leaves existing tasks and their access rules in place. Clients can still view, comment on, update, or complete existing work where their permissions allow it.
Completing an existing repeating task can still create its next scheduled task. Team task creation is separate from this client setting.
What your client sees
When task creation is off, the portal stops offering new-task actions in its New menu and task views. A client with an older form open may see that creating tasks is unavailable. Your team can add the task for them.
To limit changes to existing work, use task and section read-only settings. Turning off new-task creation doesn't make existing tasks read-only.
