Post a board or project status update
Share progress, choose a company status, and keep past updates with the work.
Post a status update to explain how work is going and what happens next. A status is your team's assessment. Choosing Complete, or a trophy marker, doesn't complete the tasks underneath it.
Use the board steps for a client account board or an internal project board. Use the separate project steps for the overall internal project.
Post a board update
Team members need access to the active board and its Overview. For an internal project board, they also need permission to manage that project. Clients can read and discuss shared board updates, but don't post the board's status.
Check Overview access before posting. On account boards, people who can open Overview can read the shared update and its discussion. Keep private team notes on work hidden from clients.
- Open the board's Overview.
- Choose Set status for the first update, or Post update when one is already shown.
- Choose a status from the list.
- Fill Current update to explain the progress or concern.
- Add Next steps when useful.
- Select Post update.
On account boards, review Send email and alert and its recipients before posting. Internal project boards don't show that account-recipient section.
Your company's saved choices appear where custom statuses are available. Otherwise, use the starting six choices. An owner or admin can manage the company list.
Some choices require text in Current update. Text only in Next steps won't meet that rule. A fresh form starts with the active On track choice, or the first active choice if On track isn't available. Always review the selection before posting.
Read or edit board history
Open the current update or an earlier update in Overview. On account boards, comments and reactions stay with that update.
When an update offers Edit, review the text and selected status before saving. Editing an older update keeps it in its original place in history; it doesn't make it the newest update.
An archived status can remain on an existing update while you edit it. New posts and changed selections use active choices. A changed update follows the current text rule.
Post the overall project status
For an internal project you can manage, open Status update to show Project status update. Choose Status, write Update, and select Save. This updates the project itself. An update on one of its boards stays with that board.
The overall project uses the same company choices and text rules. It has its own form, with no separate Next steps field.
Find updates and attention work
In Task Center → Task Boards, Board Health shows the latest posted status. Its Status Updates view lists updates. You can filter by a saved status or use At risk or off track to group statuses marked Needs attention.
No status and Status disabled describe boards without a posted status or enabled status feature. They aren't company status choices. Archived choices can still appear when they belong to past work or a saved filter. Sorting by Status puts work needing attention first, then follows the company's status order.
Status names and markers also appear in board navigation, dashboards, and other summaries where that work is visible. Access rules still apply.
If choices change while you're writing
Keep your draft. For a board conflict, use Reload latest version and keep my draft. The project form offers Reload latest choices and keep my draft. Review the current choices and any required text before retrying.
If a status was archived, choose an active one for a new update. If an older page asks you to reload, copy any unsent work first and reopen the latest form.
