Use Universal Search

Open Universal Search, narrow its scope, and understand what it can and cannot find.

Universal Search is available to team members across the Sydnee team app. Results follow the account and item access of the person searching.

  • On a Mac, press Command + K.
  • On Windows or Linux, press Control + K.
  • You can also use the Search control in the app navigation when it is shown.

Start typing, then use the arrow keys and Enter to open a result. You can also select a result with the pointer.

Choose a search scope

All Sydnee searches across the work you can access. On some pages, a second scope appears:

  • This account on an account dashboard.
  • This account's files in an account's Files area.
  • This account's requests in an account's Requests area.
  • This account's tasks in an account's Tasks area.
  • Live chat on a Live Chat route.

Changing the scope keeps search open and narrows the results.

What Universal Search can find

Universal Search can return permitted:

With no search words, it shows useful recent or active results. When you type, it can include older completed tasks and completed requests that match.

Universal Search does not search inside:

For Live Chat, it searches conversation, account, channel, and participant names or email addresses. It never returns the message text as a search result.

Why can I not find a result?

  • You may not be a member of the client account.
  • A folder, task board, or task section may be hidden from you.
  • The item may be deleted, archived, or in Trash.
  • Live Chat or the related module may be off.
  • Your current scope may be too narrow. Change it to All Sydnee.
  • Search does not cover the text field you are trying to match.

Owners and admins do not bypass normal account membership in Universal Search. Ask an owner or admin to add the account to your team profile when it is missing.

Known Live Chat shortcut problem

If your cursor is inside the Live Chat message box, the chat frame can keep Command + K or Control + K from reaching Sydnee. Click outside the message box, then use the shortcut or the Search control.
