Fix common Task and board problems

Find the cause of a missing task, blocked update, unavailable board, or empty calendar.

Start with the symptom below. Access rules and filters explain most missing work. A failed save may also mean someone changed the task at the same time.

A task is missing

  1. Clear task search and all filters.
  2. Check the current area. My Tasks shows assigned and personal work. A client board shows that board's work.
  3. Check Archived Tasks.
  4. Confirm you still belong to the client account.
  5. Ask a team member to check the board, section, task, and parent-task access rules.

Task search matches titles only. A word found only in the description, comment, or file will not return the task.

A client cannot see a task

The client needs active account membership and access to the board, section, task, every parent task, and the current view.

Check for Team only, Custom, Hidden from portal, private-task, read-only, and client-hidden-view settings. Read-only work should still be visible, but the client cannot change it.

A task board will not open

The board may be archived, removed, or limited to a list of people that does not include you. Review task-board and section settings before recreating it.

  • Restore an archived board from Manage all task boards or Archived Task Boards.
  • Ask a board manager to review Portal access or Custom access.
  • A removed board cannot be restored through the product.

For privacy, an unauthorized board can look the same as a board that does not exist.

A task update failed

Refresh the task and try again. Common causes include:

  • the task, section, or board changed while your page was open;
  • you lost access;
  • a client-facing task or section became read-only;
  • the task moved to another board or section;
  • an old direct link points to archived or removed work; or
  • another person changed tags, due dates, or dependencies at the same time.

Do not repeat a destructive action until you confirm whether the first try saved.

A task is marked Blocked

The task has at least one open direct blocker. Open Dependencies and complete or remove every blocker. A client may see only Blocked when the blocking task is private.

A task is missing from the calendar

  1. Make sure the board's Date view is enabled.
  2. Add a due date to the task.
  3. Clear filters.
  4. Confirm the task is on the current board and inside the visible date range.
  5. Confirm you can access its section and parent tasks.

Mobile Month shows task counts on each day. Select a day to open the seven-day Agenda. Repeating tasks appear on the calendar, but simple calendar dragging cannot change their date.

A board, section, or task cannot be created

  • An account can have five active standard boards. Archive one before adding or restoring another.
  • Every account must keep one active board.
  • Every board must keep one active section.
  • A board stops offering task creation at 500 active tasks.
  • A client cannot create in a read-only or hidden section.
  • Portal users cannot manage boards.

A reminder did not arrive

Confirm that the task has an assignee, a future reminder time, an open status, an active account, and an active board. Then check the assignee's email, spam folder, unsubscribe settings, email delivery status, and current access.

Reminder delivery is scheduled and may happen shortly after the selected time.

A template insertion failed

Open the template in Task Center → Templates. A template with no tasks or a saved template error cannot be inserted. Save a corrected version, then try again. Missing assignees or unavailable older attachments may be skipped with a warning. Review task template limits and version behavior.

What your client sees

Clients receive safe errors and filtered results. Sydnee does not expose hidden board, section, task, parent, or blocker names just to explain an access failure.
