Delete, restore, and permanently remove files

Move files and folders to Trash, restore them safely, or remove them for good.

Deleting a file or folder first moves it to Trash. Only team members can open and manage Trash.

What happens when you delete a file?

The file and its saved version group leave the normal Files browser and move to Trash. Clients can no longer open them.

Deleting a folder moves the folder and its included contents to Trash. The items are not removed forever at this point.

How long do items stay in Trash?

Sydnee automatically removes trashed items after 30 days. When an item has seven days or fewer left, Trash shows the remaining days.

Restore an item before its time runs out. After permanent removal, it cannot be recovered from Trash.

How do you restore a file or folder?

  1. Open Trash in Sydnee.
  2. Find the file or folder.
  3. Open its action menu.
  4. Choose Restore.

A restored file returns to its original folder when that folder still exists. If the original folder is gone or still deleted, the file returns to the client account's root Files area.

Restoring a folder restores its included folder tree and available files. A file version that was deleted on its own does not come back, because version deletion is permanent.

How do you remove an item forever?

Choose Delete forever on one trashed item, or choose Empty trash to remove all items in Trash. Confirm the warning carefully. These actions cannot be undone.

What does your client see?

Clients do not see Trash. A deleted item disappears from their portal. If you restore it, the current folder access rules decide whether it appears again.

How do you fix a common problem?

The item did not return to its old folder: the old parent folder may be missing or still deleted. Check the account's root Files area.

An old version did not return: versions deleted from the version panel are permanently removed and do not enter Trash.

The item is no longer in Trash: its 30-day period may have ended, or a team member may have deleted it forever or emptied Trash.
